ABOUT ME
My Promise
I promise you complete confidentiality and professionalism. My aim is not to judge or to measure you but to listen to you and to support and encourage you. You can trust me. I will be reliable and honest and will apply the benefit of my 30 years’ experience to help you address the change you are seeking and become the best you can be.
My Background
I bring 30 years’ experience of working at a top level in business to my executive coaching practice to help women make their mark. After a successful 17-year career as a commercial property development solicitor where I was often the only woman at the table (first at the City law firm Macfarlanes (where, in 1994, I was appointed their first female partner with children) and then at Mills & Reeve in Cambridge, I changed career.
It was fascinating to move from a predominantly male working environment into an institution run by women for women. I took up the role of Development Director and Fellow at the all-female Newnham College, University of Cambridge and raised £32 million over 11 very happy years.
I love networking, creating business relationships and developing innovative opportunities. Whilst at Newnham I spearheaded the TEDxNewnham Embracing Challenge which was Livestreamed around the world and which trended No 3 on Twitter.
I am passionate about bringing out the best potential in my clients and am particularly interested in how lack of confidence or the imposter syndrome can hold you back. Lessons learned from my leadership, first in a predominantly male field and then in an institution run by women for women, shape my strengths-based and positive psychology approach to enabling working women to thrive and realise their goals and ambitions.
I was profiled in the book: The Meaning of Success: Insights from Women in Cambridge.

I am deeply committed to education and am The Norfolk Country Ambassador for the Literacy Charity - Schoolreaders and a former Trustee of the national social mobility educational charity Achievement for All.
I have two daughters (aged 35 and 32) and my husband and I divide our time between an old house in Norfolk and Cambridge/London. I love sailing, beach walking our female Jack Russell (Professor Sprout – named after Miriam Margolyes) play the piano and occasionally still teach rock ‘n’ roll jive dance to teenagers.

“I was fortunate to be introduced to Penny at a time when I was feeling quite overwhelmed at the prospect of returning to work after maternity leave. When we first met, I knew very quickly that this was someone who understood me and would be able to help me achieve what I wanted. Penny is extremely professional but also personable and her enthusiasm for what she does is contagious. Having been out of the workplace for a few years I had no idea where to start but Penny helped me identify my values, strengths and career aspirations. Ultimately the coaching enabled me to identify and achieve a position which suits me perfectly.
I am incredibly grateful to Penny and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending her services.”
