Here are a few examples from my coaching:
BOARD DIRECTOR
THE GOAL: To support a Board Director deciding whether she has the confidence to aim for a C-suite position.
AREAS WORKED ON: We focused on her relationships with her fellow directors and how she could build her credibility and strengthen her leadership skills both at board level and with her team. We explored which of the tactics she used to get herself up the ladder to board level are still relevant and whether any such learned behaviours should now be dropped or changed. She has been complimented by her CEO on her maturity and progress and is feeling confident in her ability to advance.
LAW PARTNER
THE GOAL: To support a new law partner in her business development and internal credibility with her new law firm.
AREAS WORKED ON: The client’s area of law is a new one complementary to the practice’s main focus. We devised a strategy to embed internal profile raising in her ‘first 100-day’ plan. Our sessions also explored opportunities and best practice for her business development and networking and we worked on team development and management. She has made great progress in developing her profile both internally and externally and is being referred work by her partners as well as introducing new clients to the firm. Recently she has been invited to join the firm’s Strategy Committee.
ARCHITECT
THE GOAL: To help an architect partner develop and expand their business.
AREAS WORKED ON: The practice was starting to attract a following and win awards. The partners were keen to devise a plan for the expansion of the business, including identifying the firm’s unique selling points and being more structured in their approach to business development. We explored the values of both client and firm as being integral to a business plan. We examined how the client could feel more comfortable delegating to her team to free up strategic thinking time and identified ways of encouraging creative and innovative contributions from their employees. Through the coaching we devised an outline business plan and addressed the client’s lack of confidence in networking.
“When I first started coaching sessions with Penny I was honestly a little sceptical about the value of coaching. Penny’s warm and supportive style, coupled with incisive questions and practical tools for my particular management challenges, has made me a complete convert to the effectiveness of her coaching.
Penny has skilfully coached me to solve my own problems in a way I could never have done alone. She takes great care to know you as an individual and to understand the specific circumstances of your situation. I have no hesitation in recommending her to anyone looking to improve the more intangible aspects of successful leadership.”
